10 foot ceilings are most definitely worth it!! I remember being pleasantly surprised about the cost. I think it was a couple thousand extra dollars, but soooooo much impact!! Not a budget buster in the whole scheme but one of the big decisions you can never change down the road. Do a search and you'll find lots of threads regarding Schumacher homes.
The builders do not oversee the sub-trades. Majority of trade workers on our build produced shoddy work resulting in issues we’re still dealing with 7 mos. In my opinion they spread themselves to thin by working on several homes at a time. Get bids from the top-rated contractors in your area. Stay on top of the project, and be a kind person!!!! There are many things that aren't a big deal to fix if they are caught early.
There is a lot of turnover, some departments are a revolving door because the management is so bad but isn't held accountable. It affected my personal and family life because the negativity in the office wears on you over time. On the morning of July 18, 2019, Thursday I called this Schumacher model home location, in an attempt to make a appointment to see one of the model homes. The man I spoke to said I didn't have to make an appointment, I could just come in. The man said they closed at 6pm that day, but online the location hours say open until... This review was chosen algorithmically as the most valued customer feedback. The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Some were simply preferences on my part. Some were serious changes that needed to be addressed. Some items were just "wrong" or "missed in drafting".
Schumacher underbids the sub work so your cost ends up higher than anticipated, this also puts more profit in their pockets. I wish I had seen this site and the other input before I started building with them. The windows leak air, house is always cold in the winter hot in the summer, you can stand by the windows and feel the air coming thru lowest grade window you can buy.
